Misson: The mission of the IUSB MSOT program is to prepare ethical, client-centered occupational therapists who promote health and well-being locally and globally. Faculty will serve as skilled clinicians, teachers, scholars, and advocates, while graduates will value diversity, think critically, and collaborate across professions to support meaningful participation in life.
Vision: We envision our Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program will facilitate and integrate innovative models of education, evidence-based research and equitable service learning that prom
The MSOT program is a full-time and based model (cohort). To graduate, students must complete 69 credits: 55 in classes and 14 in clinical fieldwork. After finishing coursework, students have 18 months to complete 24 weeks of Level II fieldwork. Courses must be taken in order, and students must maintaina GPA of 3.0 or higher to stay in the program.
Clinical practicums (called Fieldwork) are a vital part of the occupational therapy curriculum, providing hands-on experiences across the lifespan and within a variety of settings to connect what is learned in classes to clinical practice. The transformative learning that occurs in fieldwork is necessary to prepare students for entry-level practice by applying evidence-based practice, theoretical application, and reflective professional development. Providing clinical/community site placement opportunities for five different settings allows students to gain experience and feedback from experts in the field.
In our dedicated lab sections, you'll engage in hands-on activities designed to develop and refine essential clinical skills. These immersive sessions allow you to practice, under faculty guidance, the core competencies of an occupational therapist such as assessment and evaluation, assistive technology, adaptive equipment training, therapeutic exercise, and more! These experiences ensure you enter your fieldwork rotations and your professional career with confidence, competence, and experience.
Students in the MSOT program participate in the Indiana University Interprofessional Practice and Education Center’s longitudinal curriculum known as the Teach Education Advancing Collaborating in Healthcare (TEACH!). This curriculum consists of 3 events completed together with students from medicine, nursing, speechlanguage pathology and others.
