Admissions

Division of Rehabilitation Science, Occupational Therapy

Before Applying:

The IUSB Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program has a competitive admissions process, and while meeting all requirements is important, it does not ensure acceptance. Applicants must create an account in the Occupational Therapist Centralized Application System (OTCAS) to submit their application (not by email). They need to be fully verified by the deadline. The application cycle usually runs from mid-July to the end of September for enrollment for the next Fall.

Application Timeline:

  • Application Available: Mid-July
  • Application Ends: End of September

GPA Requirements:

Minimum Application GPA: 3.0
Minimum Cumulative GPA: 3.0

Program Prerequisites:

Applicants may have no more than two (2) prerequisite courses outstanding. The outstanding prerequisite course(s) must be completed by the August start date of the program with a grade of ‘C’ or higher while maintaining at least the required 3.0 admissions cumulative GPA. Applicants must have a completed* bachelor degree in any major from a regionally accredited college/university.  Or will have the completed degree prior to matriculation into the MSOT program. For applicants without the degree completion at the time of application, they must submit to OTCAS this form (Declaration of Intent to Complete pdf). Final transcripts accounting for any outstanding prerequisite coursework must be received prior to matriculation into the program. Record all prerequisite coursework on the Prerequisite Course Completion Form (.pdf). To avoid losing progress, download this form and complete it in Acrobat Reader. Then upload the completed form to OTCAS in the documents section.

Advanced Placement (AP) Credit/Dual Credit:

AP classes count if you score 3 or higher and they show up on your college transcript, but they won’t be included in the calculated GPA for required prerequisite classes. Dual credit classes also count, but they must be on your college transcript with a letter grade.

Credit Retakes and Prior OT Coursework/ Work Experience:

Retaking Credits: Students can retake up to 15 credit hours of prerequisite courses. Only the higher grade will count toward the prerequisite GPA, but each course can only be retaken twice. The overall GPA will still follow the repeat policy of the school where the course was taken.

OT Courses & Work Experience: Graduate OT courses from other programs and past OT job experience will not count toward this program.

Admission Interview:

Applicants who meet the academic requirements will be invited to an admissions interview. Applicants outside of Indiana, or those who cannot travel, will be offered the option to interview virtually.

Frequently Asked Questions

You don’t have to complete observation hours, but it’s a good idea so you can learn what occupational therapists do. We suggest shadowing in at least 2 different places (like a hospital or a children’s clinic) and with 2 different groups of people (like children and older adults).

As part of your OTCAS application, you’ll need to submit a personal statement essay. This is your chance to share your story and explain why you’re drawn to a career in occupational therapy. Highlight experiences from your undergraduate studies, work, or volunteer activities that connect to your immediate and long-term goals. You’re also encouraged to reflect on how your personal, professional, or cultural background has shaped your interest in the field. Be sure to demonstrate strong writing skills and attention to detail—this is your opportunity to make a meaningful impression.

The GRE is not needed for the OTCAS application. If you do provide your GRE score in your OTCAS application, it will not be reviewed.

An applicant who accepts admission to enroll in the IUSB MSOT program will be required to complete the IU Graduate Application to enroll as a graduate student at IUSB.
