Mission and Goals
The mission of the Division of Health Sciences is to improve the health and well-being of those we serve through high quality education, scholarship, and service. Our graduates will exemplify ethical and professional behavior, critical thinking, evidence-based practice, and community engagement.
Program Goals:
- Connect professional standards of conduct to ethical behavior and personal growth
- Integrate theory guided, evidence-based health care practices for optimum health outcomes
- Synthesize the principles of prevention, assessment, intervention, evaluation related to the health of the community at the local, regional, and/or global levels
- Assimilate components of health equity and social justice that reflect social consciousness and our commitment to the diverse populations we serve
- Facilitate life-long learning among HSC students
Health Promotion Concentration Objectives:
- Apply the core functions of public health for population health change
- Design theory based interventions to promote health and prevent disease
- Critique the effectiveness of health promotion programs
Speech Language Pathology Concentration Objectives:
- Explain the basic human communication process (such as biological, neurological, acoustic, psychological, developmental, linguistic, cultural)
- Explain common disorders across the lifespan related to speech, language, swallowing and/or hearing
- Explain the basic principles of prevention, assessment, and intervention of speech, language, swallowing, and/or hearing disorders
Rehabilitation Science Concentration Objectives:
- Assess fitness and movement of healthy populations and individuals with chronic diseases and conditions
- Create evidence-based programs to promote health for diverse populations
- Describe interprofessional education and practice and how it can be used to improve health outcomes.
Sports and Exercise Science Concentration Objectives:
- Assess the health, fitness and movement of healthy populations and individuals with chronic diseases and diverse conditions
- Create evidence-based exercise programs to promote health and fitness for diverse populations in a professional manner
- Implement safe exercise programs to promote health and fitness for diverse populations.
